India’s wholesale inflation rose to the highest in seven months as food prices surged.
Inflation as measured by the Wholesale Price Index rose to 1.32% in September—the highest since February—from 0.16% in August, according to data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
Rising food prices, too, caused the retail inflation to jump to the highest in eight months in September.

- Primary articles inflation stood at 5.1% in September against 1.6% in August.
- Prices of food articles stood at 8.17% compared with 3.84% in the previous month.
- The index of non-food articles contracted 0.08% against a contraction of 1.46% in August.
- Fuel and power index contracted 9.54% against a fall of 9.68% in August.
- Manufactured products inflation rose 1.61% after increasing 1.27% in August.
