In 1996, Kevin Plank began making tee-shirts for football players with the sole aim of keeping them dry and light. What began two decades ago as a small idea at his grandmother’s basement in Washington, is today a $4.9 billion brand, operating in 75 countries across the world, giving the likes of Nike and Adidas a run for their money. The founder-CEO of Under Armour was in India this week to launch the first store in the country. In a freewheeling chat at IIT Mumbai with Harsha Subramaniam of Bloomberg News, Plank talks about his journey as an entrepreneur, the mistakes made, and the lessons learned.
