(Bloomberg) -- Boris Johnson, the publicity-hungry former foreign secretary, was photographed running through what looked like a field of crops outside his countryside home Monday.
It was an act that seemed to openly mock Prime Minister Theresa May, who once admitted trampling a wheat field was the naughtiest thing she had ever done.
Johnson will address rank and file Conservatives at the party’s annual conference in Birmingham Tuesday in a hall that seats 1,500 people. His popularity combined with a vocal criticism of May -- he called her Brexit plan “deranged” -- makes him a star attraction.
So far, delegates appear to have rallied round May, with jibes at Johnson’s expense greeted with cheers.
During last year’s election campaign May was asked about the naughtiest thing she’d ever done. The vicar’s daughter, after some hesitation, replied: “Well, nobody is ever perfectly behaved, are they? I mean, you know, there are times when I have to confess, when me and my friend, sort of, used to run through the fields of wheat. The farmers weren’t too pleased about that.”
Johnson was photographed running in a brown running top and colorful shorts covered in turtles. Johnson is noted for his flamboyant running shorts.
