Closing Bell: A New Milestone

It was a day of records for India's equity markets as benchmark indices scaled new peaks, ending higher for the third straight day.

The S&P BSE Sensex ended 1% higher at 44,523 while the NSE Nifty 50 index, crossed the 13,000 mark to end 1% higher at 13,055. Both Sensex and Nifty ended at a record high. 38 out of the 50 index constituents ended with gains.

Among the sectoral indices, the Nifty Bank ended only 200 points shy of the 30,000 mark, closing with gains of 2.7% at 29,796. It was also the top performing sectoral index in today's trading session.

Among other indices that did well, the Nifty Auto and Nifty Realty index ended with gains of 1.7% each while the Nifty Metal, Nifty Pharma and Nifty PSU Bank index closed with gains of over 1% each.

Broader markets moved largely in tandem with the benchmark indices. The Nifty Midcap index ended 0.7% higher, at the highest level since September 2018. The Smallcap index also closed at a 10-month high, ending with gains of 1.1%.

The India Volatility Index ended off the day's high but 1.2% higher at 21.05.

1,111 stocks on the NSE ended with gains while 756 stocks reported losses.

Opening Bell: Nifty Hits 13,000!

Indian equity markets opened higher for the third straight day, with the NSE Nifty 50 index scaling the mark of 13,000 in the initial seconds of trade.

The 50-stock gauge opened 0.6% higher at 13,002, gaining 1,000 points in the last 14 trading sessions.

The S&P BSE Sensex has opened 0.6% higher at 44,341.

The Nifty Bank and PSU Bank index have opened with gains of 0.8% each. Nifty Metal and Nifty Realty gained 0.7% each while Nifty Pharma was up 0.6% at the start of trade.

Broader markets are in-line with the benchmarks. The Midcap index has opened 0.6% higher while the Smallcap index is up 1%.

1,228 stocks on the NSE are trading with gains while 390 stocks decline.

Current Market Update

Another Day, Another Attempt

Good Morning!

Indian equity markets began the new trading week on a positive note by ending with gains. However, the 13,000 mark continued to remain distant for the NSE Nifty 50 index. The gauge fell 30 points short, reversing from an intraday high of 12,969.

Futures today are indicating a subdued start to the trading day. The Singapore-traded SGX Nifty, an early indicator of the Nifty 50 Index’s performance in India, was little changed at 12,957 as of 8:05 a.m.

F&O updates - five stocks have exited the F&O Ban namely BHEL, Canara Bank, DLF, L&T Finance and Vodafone Idea. On the other hand, SAIL is back in the Ban after a one-day gap. The highest open interest on the Call side has now shifted higher to 13,500 from 13,000. The 13,500 call now has 41 lakh shares in Open Interest for this Thursday's expiry, while the 13,000 call has close to 37 lakh shares.

Most Asian markets have opened higher after a positive overnight session on Wall Street. Benchmarks in Japan, Australia and South Korea rose while those in Hong Kong and China were little changed.

Futures on the Dow Jones are trading 200 points higher. The index ended 1.1% higher on Monday.

West Texas Intermediate crude was little changed at $43.05 per barrel while Gold fell to a four-month low of $1,827.2/Oz.
