Tata Steel Registers High Hot Metal, Crude Steel Production

Sales figures showed healthy signs of improvement.

Tata Steel Ltd. reported growth in production across various segments for the first quarter of FY17, according to a company press release.

  • The highest production growth was seen in hot metal, or liquid iron, which increased by 16.3 percent to around 3 million tonnes in the first quarter of FY17 compared to the same period last year.
  • Crude steel production increased 7.6 percent to 2.5 million tonnes on a year-on-year basis.
  • Saleable steel output rose 5.6 percent to 2.3 million tonnes in the first quarter.

The sales numbers too saw an uptick as the company clocked in its best sales output ever for automotive steel and hi-end steel at 379 kilotons and 76.4 kilotons respectively in the first quarter, according to the press release.
