Brunswick Group Rainmaker Steve Lipin to Leave Advisory Firm

(Bloomberg) -- Steve Lipin, a senior partner at Brunswick Group in New York who has advised on some of the world’s biggest takeovers, is leaving the corporate advisory firm after more than a decade.

Lipin’s move was communicated via an internal memo today, according to people familiar with the matter, who asked not to be identified as the details are private. He is planning to start his own corporate communications firm after taking some leave, the people said.

“Brunswick is the premier strategic firm in our sector with a top-notch reputation and global capabilities second to none,” Lipin said in an emailed statement. “I wish the firm and my colleagues the very best as they go from strength to strength.”

Lipin joined Brunswick in 2001 from the Wall Street Journal, where he was finance editor and covered mergers and acquisitions for the paper. Some of his key clients at the firm, which advises companies on everything from M&A to activist defense, included Pfizer Inc. and 3G Capital Inc., as well as providing communications advice to Anheuser Busch InBev NV on its $103 billion deal to acquire British brewer SABMiller Plc.

He graduated from Boston College in 1985 with a bachelor’s degree in economics.

“Steve Lipin has been a valued member of Brunswick’s team for the last 15 years and we thank him for his significant contribution to the firm,” Brunswick said in an emailed statement.
