Necessity is the mother of invention. Inspired by long lines of suffering citizens waiting to withdraw their quota of cash after the government’s demonetisation move, two Bengaluru-based entrepreneurs have done what comes naturally to them. Startup a solution.

Manjunath Talwar and Abhijit Kansas, co-founders of online recruitment platform, Hiree (recently acquired by Quikr), have launched a website named CashNoCash.com to help cash-strapped citizens locate the nearest functioning ATM, bank branch or post office.

The site uses Google Maps to locate cash dispensing points and crowdsources information from citizens on the availability of cash at these points.

The website will inform citizens of the availability of cash and waiting time at the ATMs. Users can even set alerts to get notified when the ATM gets refilled with cash.

The crowdsourcing platform is supported by Quikr and Nasscom.

In less than 24 hours since its launch, the CashNoCash.com has received an overwhelming response. Kansas said that more than 8,000 locations or cash points have been updated so far and the number is increasing rapidly.

“There has been massive surge in the evening due to which our site had crashed twice. We are preparing it to handle heavy traffic,” co-founder Manjunath Talwar added.
